I've noticed that a lot of wester "gyarus" have been scene, and I think that they still look somewhat scene, it shines through.
The thing is that I think that the Jeffrey Star scene-thing is kinda cool and looks pretty fine.
I have nothing against scenekids, it's just bothers me that a lot of scenekids turns to gyarus over a night.
I just had to write down my feelings..

gosh.

Ok, not over a night maybe.. But still.
The gyaru and scenestyle is so faraway, even though a lot of things may seem similar..

I've nothing against scene kids turning into gyaru -- it's not like it massively offensive. They can do whatever they like to their face and body. Some former scene kids look amazing as gyaru, better than 'normal' girls who turned to gyaru. Either way, people can do what they like with their life.

Yes of course it just bothers me that their former scene style shines through

Ah, well they tend not to be that good. I think a lot of scene girls think that because they have heavy eye make-up, and gyaru have heavy eye make-up, that the switch will be so easy. Whereas the two styles are very different, and achieve the heavy look in two completely different ways. So until they learn to abandon their former make-up application, they will still look just a little bit scene.

Also, a lot of people may see something they like with out studying about it first. Therefore a lot of the typical "rules" to gyaru makeup will be looked over.

Same goes for the hair. Scene hair =/= gyaru hair, even if both can be big and teased.

Well i think both are quite different... And I think it's ok for scene kid to tryout gyaru or vice versa.

I mean, it's all about creating your OWN style, right? <3

Hey, at least we're not lolitas. When someone does it wrong, it's usually an enormous fail.

When you're going for a style, you should go completely for it and it's just harder for western gals to look more gal and then some try it anyways with ex. those cow piercings or like blue hair =_= it can work if you're really good ok but when you're starting out..nooooohh..

I totally have a cow piercing and I was never really scene. :/
But I do my gal make full out, and I can flip it in, so it doesn't really hurt I don't think.

But yeah, if you're starting out, it's harder to carry a facial piercing. Even if you're pro if can be pretty hard.

And I 100% agree with:

I think mixing styles is great =3! Brings up new stuff. Of course there's just styles that don't match at alll =s... but although scene and gyaru are very different, they seem to somehow work well if people do it right Very Happy

I know this was poster FOREVER ago... but what I think is they want to be unique.

After becoming tired of scene (and also it has become really used) Gyaru in really unique.

I definitely agree with you. I am not too proud to admit that I used to be scene, but honestly, I think I totally ditched it years ago (I hope so, at least!). I think the majourly beneficial difference between scene and gyaru is that with scene, you are or you are not. With gyaru, there are so many different ways you can dress, and do your hair, makeup, and nails, so you can be who you want to be and still be gyaru, whereas I do not think that is necessarily true with scene kids! There are similarities, such as the teased hair, but you can definitely see the differences between scene-teased hair and gyaru-teased hair, even in manba/banba/tsuyome.

I mean, come on...

And I can say though I do not mind scene hair, I do not really care for scene makeup at all. It is mostly black eyeliner and hiding your eyes (sort of) and gyaru is all about showing your eyes (mostly.) I guess it just depends on what you like, but I just do not care too much for scene anymore.
